Weesleekit Ltd was formed eight years ago by Steve Kirkpatrick after working for 11 years in design studios in Glasgow. Steve decided to start his own company whereby clients could work directly with a creative designer on a personal level.
So why the name “weesleekit” which isn’t
the most obvious choice for a design agency. Well, we wanted something
which was unique, memorable, international
and left you with a smile - a bit like our service.
The term “weesleekit” incase you don’t know is a word
(well 2 words really - wee sleekit) which comes from the first line of
a poem “To a Mouse” by Scotland’s National Bard, Robert
Burns, who spent the final years of his life in Dumfries and
Galloway. We sometimes have to explain, or spell-out weesleekit,
but in the main people are very responsive. Here’s the first line
of the poem: “Wee, sleekit, cowrin, tim’rous beastie,. O,
what a panic’s in thy breastie!” - to read the whole poem

So that’s the story of our company name and it’s very pertinent
to our philosophy, whereby much of design and communication is just that
- telling your story in a unique way.
Our story is quite interesting in how we have developed into a multi-discipline
design agency. It didn’t happen over night, it’s
taken several years of developing, calculated steps and sometimes taking
a risk. The company derives from a background of design for printed
literature, developing into internet solutions
alongside the dotcom boom. Being a highly visual agency we were quite
frustrated with the limitations of the internet in the late 90’s
and decided to invest in CD-Rom solutions which could
provide instant video, full screen images and interactive graphics. As
with most new technology is was very quickly superceded, and rapidly DVD
solutions have overtaken CD-Rom. With the advent of DVD we have
further developed into the digital world and can provide 3d rendered environments,
short films, interactive touchscreens to sensor-active interpretive environments.
You could say that in the last 10 years we have diversified from ‘logo’
designers, to multimedia ‘techies’ to screen ‘art directors’.
Does this mean we are a “jack-of-all-trades” and “master
of none”. I don’t think so - we have remained loyal to what
we do best: design. The principals are the same across
the board, the learning curve is in embracing a new format and finding
the right partners to help you grow.
Weesleekit Ltd currently comprises of 4 full time creative designers.
